Royals is truly a band with a difference!
The
Red Deer Royals Marching Show Band is Central Alberta's
only Marching Show Band . Our band members(aged
11-21) currently represent 20 schools throughout
the area. Although most of the 120 members are
from Red Deer, there are young people travelling
from as far south as Carstairs,as far north as
Ponoka, as far west as Caroline as well as many
other communities in between. Over
the past 36 years, the Royals have developed into
an award winning band performing, competing and delighting
crowds locally and internationally. This unique band
program trains young instrumentalists in the performance
of traditional and contempory music in concert, parade
and field show settings. They are known for their
quality instruction, variety of repertoire and originality
of presentation. The
band is made up of woodwinds, brass, percussion and
colorguard. Regular rehearsals take place on Wednesday
evenings during the school year. As well, there are
Saturday blocking camps beginning in late January
and performances every weekend from May to July.
Touring
is an ancillary part of the Red Deer Royals experience.
The Royals program provides the opportunity for regional,
national and international touring. The band has
travelled to California and Mexico in 1992, North
Dakota in
1994, Australia in 1995, England and France
in 1998, The Netherlands and Germany in 2001 and
Italy in 2003. In the summer of 2006 the band
returned to Australia.

The
Field Show portion of the Royals experience
is one that many audience members cannot believe.
The 10 -12 minute show consists of 4 songs.
The musicians and colorguard perform while
moving about the field in a choreographed performance.
The
Royals consistantly perform to their high standard
during Field Show competitions. They also perform
their Field Shows in exhibition.
The
Royals tour a great deal, travelling on average,
every 3 years.

Definition:
march-ing band mem-ber:
Extremely
committed person who moves along steadily while
performing music, usually with rythmic stride and
in step with others, often found in a large group
formation, with large crowds watching and cheering.
Particularly, persons wearing red and black suits
and plumed hats. One who usually wears out their
feet, gets wet, sweaty, and generally has a good
time. |
