Red Deer's adult community concert bands are active Sept through to May and there's something for everyone! Study after study has pointed to the personal benefits of active involvement in one of the fine and performing arts.
Make it a personal goal to further round out your life by joining one of the community bands in Red Deer! Community band is about making great music in a relaxed, non-threatening and fun atmosphere.
The Tuesday Night Band at the Red Deer College Arts Centre
Mission & General Information:
For the developing musician with one or two years experience, or for the somewhat experienced musician who had just dusted off the horn and is trying to get up to speed again. There are about 25 players in the group.
Director : Kerry Heisler. Phone 746-5276Kerry has a background in voice, piano, horn and guitar. Kerry’s principle concert band instrument is French horn. She has a Vocal Performance Diploma from Grant MacEwan Community College and studied five years of classical Italian technique with Janet Nichol. Kerry has also studied jazz piano with Charles Austin. Her postsecondary study includes a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Administration with a specialization in Cultural Arts Administration from the University of Alberta. Kerry’s “after degree” is in Music Education, also from the University of Alberta. Kerry has been the Music Director for The Wizard of Oz, Godspell, Babes in Toyland, Village of Idiots, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Kerry teaches band, choir and jazz band at H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake. During her eight years at H.J. Cody, the Choir has grown from 16 members to a compliment of 65 and the Concert Band has 40 members from 15. Kerry has been a clinician for many schools and guest conductor for the Foothills Music Society and Red Deer Community Band Society. This is Kerry’s third year as the Tuesday night band conductor.
Time and Place :
Meets weekly, Tuesday Nights from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Glendale Middle School.
