THE RED DEER ROYALS 2000-2001 SEASON

This was a sad year for the Red Deer Royals and everyone associated with them. Our wonderful Director Mr. Keith Mann passed away suddenly due to a motorcycle accident in May. This was a a mere two months before our planned tour to The Netherlands and Germany to compete.

Mr. Rob Goring had been directing one of the RDCBS adult community bands and stepped in to help us complete our year and go to Europe. Without hesitation, Mr. Goring led 95 young people and the parent chaperones, on a successful European tour. He was amazing!

In Germany we dedicated our Field Show performance to the memory of Mr. Mann and to Mrs. Mann who was in the audience at Potsdam. We played with all our hearts and some tears and attained a gold medal standing.

When we returned to Red Deer we symbolically shared the gold medal with Mr. Mann by releasing gold balloons which floated up to the heavens.
