The
2003-2004 season highlights:
• a
very emotional performance at the dedication of a
Bronze Ghost statue of Mr. Keith Mann, our former
band director who passed away suddenly May 11, 2001.
This statue is in the park of the Red Deer City Hall
and is part of a series of bronze Ghosts in our city.
At the ceremony we played a few of Mr. Mann's favorites:
a medly of Sousa marches( Mr.Mann was a Sousa fanatic)
and Unchained Melody (from "Motown", Mr.
Mann's last field show with the Royals).
• our
performance in -20° temperatures at the lighting
up of Red Deer's biggest Christmas tree. This performance
featured not just cold fingers and ears, but freezing
tuba valves and trombone slides!
• receiving
the Mayor's Recognition Award
• our
performance with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra
at their Christmas Spectacular. The entire band
played 5 numbers. It is always a thrill to play
with the Symphony.
• a
Superior Band Award at Red Deer's Kiwanas Festival
• at
the Calgary Stampede parade our "band front" (banner,
colour guard and drum majors) won first prize among
all the bands and our entire band was 4th overall
(out of 16 bands)with a mark of 88.3!
• we
had a great field show "Embodiment of Sound"
• 44
performances and parades with no rain-just heavy
mist!!!
• 'service
through performance' in support of other groups:
Iran Earthquake Benefit concert, Festival of the
Trees,

• special
award for inclusion of individuals with developmental
disabilities
