The
2004-2005 season was a busy one for the Red Deer Royals.
We had many extra performances as part of the Alberta Centennial
celebrations. It was great fun! Plus we did it in style
with our new uniforms!
Highlights
of the year included:
•
our last Red Deer Santa Parade wearing our old red and white
uniforms
•
playing as a warm -up band to Kalan Porter, the latest Canadian
Idol. Between our performance and Kalan's he met with us
and we presented him with a travel jacket with his name on
it making him an Honorary Member of the Royals. Hope he wears
it sometime. He was very nice.
•
playing at an evening put on by the Dutch Canadian Club.
There was a 100 member male choir from Holland who performed
at the Centrium. They were performing to thank Canadians
for their support during the Second World War. It was so
neat to play with them and to be part of an historical event
such as this
•
meeting and playing with the West Vancouver Youth Band after
the Caroline Parade
•
meeting our Aussie friends the Marching Koalas from Newcastle.
We billeted the band members. We played together at the
Beavers to
Rovers Jamboree. We also had a barbecue and played together
at Great Chief Park
•for
the first time that anyone can recall, marching in a
parade in Olds. Over the years there have been many Olds
musicians
in the
Royals
but
they
have been unable to march in the Olds Fair Parade as it is
held in August, the Royals' month off. This year Olds had
a Centennial Parade in July so we were able to play.
•
receiving the Arthur Rutherford Musical Award for best marching
band, drum corps, military, cadet or pipes and drums entry
at the Klondike Days Parade 2005, the last "Klondike
Days Parade" ever. Next year it will be the Capitol
X Parade
•
playing at the pre-opening ceremonies of the World Masters
Games in Edmonton
•
playing in Medicine Hat for the Solar Car Race and the Rodeo
•
playing on the Stettler train, in Stettler's Parade and in
Big Valley
•
many more performances in and around our great 100 year old
province! |
