THE RED DEER ROYALS 2007-2008 SEASON

The 2007-2008 season proved to be another busy one for the Red Deer Royals.
Highlights of the year included:
• The Royals Band numbered 130 members, the highest ever to date.
• A total of 31 public performances through the year.
• Performing Vaugh William’s Folk Song Suite with members of the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra on
November 3.
• Honoring the Veterans at the Lest We Forget Musical Remembrance as well as at the Red Deer
Remembrance Day Ceremony
• Christmas performances at the Santa Claus parade, lighting of Red Deer's largest Christmas tree, playing
at the Festival of Trees and at the Kiwanis Carol Festival
• Receiving a Superior Band Award at Red Deer's Kiwanis Festival
• Marching in many parades throughout Alberta, including our usual “hometown parades” in Central
Alberta.
• In the Calgary Stampede Parade we were the top overall band out of 21 participating bands. Our
Auxiliary (Banner, Colour Guard, and Drum Majors) placed 2nd overall.
• In Edmonton’s Capital Ex Parade were the top overall musical entry for which we received the Sig
Hansen Music Award.
• Our Colour Guard put on some great performances of their winter show in Magrath, Calgary, Edmonton
and Red Deer
• Outstanding performances of our field show Royal Canadian Sketches. This work was written by Ralph
Ford in 2001 and dedicated to the Red Deer Royals.
