For jazz enthusiasts who are more advanced players, this toe-tapping, finger-snapping band has approximately 15-20 members. Jazz Explosion brings lively music to any performance, as well as an opportunity to expand your musical abilities with a little bit of swing!
Director
Steve Sherman
Steve has been educating music students from grade 4 to college for over 45 years. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Degree in Music Education and is also a member of the International Bandmaster's Fraternity Phi Beta Mu. Steve was the director of the Innisfail Instrumental Music Program, then going on to accept a full-time position at Red Deer College, where he remained until his retirement. Steve was honoured to be a recipient of the Alberta Band Association's Elkhorn Award, the David Peterkin Award, and the John Phillip Sousa Foundation Legion of Honor, as well as his induction into the Town of Innisfail's Hall of Fame. Steve has been very active as a jazz, trumpet, and marching and concert band clinician, as well as an adjudicator and guest conductor throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and California.
Time & Place
Jazz Explosion meets weekly on Wednesday nights from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Notre Dame High School in Red Deer.
