
The Monday Night Novice Band is focused toward the adult beginner who has little or no experience on a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument. This band attracts approximately 15 to 35 beginning players year after year over the past decade.

Lillian Traquair
Lil has lived in Red Deer for the past 28 years and has made a career of teaching beginner bands for the Red Deer Catholic School Division. Lil has also served as band director of GH Dawe Community School and founded the band program at St. Patrick Middle School, École La Prairie, and Camille J. LeRouge School. Before moving to Red Deer, Lil taught in Saskatchewan for four years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education-Composite Music Major from the University of North Dakota at Dickenson, a Master of Distance Education at Athabasca University, and is a member of the International Bandmaster's Fraternity Phi Beta Mu. Lil has always had a love for the community band movement since playing, traveling, and competing with the Moose Jaw Lions Community Band as a school-age musician. She has directed adult church choir, community musicals, and continues to work as a low brass and double reed clinician in Central Alberta.
Time & Place
The Novice Band meets weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00pm - 8:30pm at St. Joseph High School in Red Deer.
